    Be nominated for an equal pound
    Of your fair flesh, to be cut off and taken
    In what part of your body pleaseth me.

    Of thrice three times the value of this bond.

SHYLOCK

    O father Abram, what these Christians are,
    Whose own hard dealings teaches them suspect
    The thoughts of others! Pray you, tell me this;
    If he should break his day, what should I gain
    By the exaction of the forfeiture?
    A pound of man's flesh taken from a man
    Is not so estimable, profitable neither,
    As flesh of muttons, beefs, or goats. I say,
    To buy his favour, I extend this friendship:
    If he will take it, so; if not, adieu;
    And, for my love, I pray you wrong me not.

夏洛克        亞伯蘭老祖宗啊！瞧這些基督徒因為自己待人刻薄，所以疑心人家對他們不怀好意。請您告訴我，要是他到期不還，我照著約上規定的條款向他執行處罰了，那對我又有什么好處？從人身上割下來的一磅肉，它的价值可以比得上一磅羊肉、牛肉或是山羊肉嗎？我為了要博得他的好感，所以才向他賣這樣一個交情；要是他愿意接受我的條件，很好，否則就算了。千万請你們不要誤會我這一番誠意。
